Just play through the game and you will learn the basic, then soon enough you will be killing people in PvP, unless you are a PvE person.

Anyway.. welcome to the game.

Don't worry about too much when you start. Pick any class and play a while, then you'll get a feel for what you want to do. Then you can pick your main class and play that a bunch. Oh, and find a good guild that looks for new people, they'll help more than the forums will.

Welcome to GW
For anyone new to the game I would suggest not leaving the starter area too quickly; learn as much as you can early on. Also I agree with crazybanshee 100% if you can find a good Guild that welcomes new players do so; the experience of long time players can save you a lot of grief.

Enjoy

Have fun in the beginner area, its quite pretty. Whatever your primary class is, try out all the secondary professions before you commit to one.

Also dont sell dye in the beginner areas, as when you move on to the non-beginner area, the dye may sell for more, some dyes sell for LOTS more.

Play a build (set of skills that you use to fight) that you like, not one that someone brags about. But try to take advice into consideration.

Have fun, be nice, and enjoy the game.

A new player? How exciting! MY favorite!
Tips:

The area you begin in is very people friendly. Enemies will not harm you unless you intend to do the same.

Take your time, and explore a bit; you might find that extra thing to help you hold more items, or find someone who can provide you with new armor.

If you want to find where to go for a quest, don't spend an hour searching for it. Press M or U and you will bring a map or mini map respectively and the Green Starburst shall give you a hint.

Do not hesitate to ask a question. There are many people who will return an answer, without the attitude.

This might sound complicated, but you can make a PvP character and take a look at all the skills you could learn. That way, you can get a sense of what you might want to have as your secondary.

I hope I did not overload you with hints, but one big thing to keep in mind is this: The game gets more exciting as you progress. So do not feel like this game is not providing the thrill you want. You will find that and great rewards as you play through. Hope to see you online! [:

Be sure to make a pvp character too! don't be afraid to fail when you are mixing and matching builds! Playing Random Arenas (RA) is a great way to get familiar with all sorts of skills and builds to help better understand what each class purpose is!

I would join a small friendly guild to start out with! Sometimes large guilds can be intimidating for new players.

Feel free to shoot me any questions you might have or if you need some help let me know!

In Game Name (ING): Omega Precept

Depending on what class you start out as I may have some freebies for you

Welcome to guildwars

One thing all Guild Wars newcomers need to know, [skill]mending[/skill] and [skill]live vicariously[/skill] don't make you invincible.

To be precise they make a Warrior invincible up to lvl 12, beyond that however they are completely useless. The reason being is that untill you run into Enchantment Stripping/Removal/Shattering they give a warrior a powerful means of self healing but later in the game they actually cause a warrior to take damage(Shatter Enchantment).

In the early parts of the game just about any skill combination will work. As you progress you will find the monsters use different skills that require much more thought in your OWN skills and your party combination as well.

Possibly the best advice I can give you is to use the OBSERVER mode to watch a few GvG matches or HoH. While not every PvP build will work in PvE you will get to see some interesting ways skills mesh as well as team work to make the most out of each build.

Being a newb is fine.

Be the resourceful, observant newb.

Not the obnoxious, ignorant newb.

QFT. Follow this advice and you'll go far.

Personal suggestion, don't believe anything... unusual sounding that anyone tells you ingame, especially regarding item values. There are a lot of people out there that play to make you the fool.

Oh, and bookmark wiki.guildwars.com and gw.gamewikis.org. They will answer almost any question you throw at them.

You might want to start out by picking a good class for you . They're all pretty good, but if you keep replaying classes it will get very boring :/. Stick with one, and hope for the best! They're all good!

Welcome!

Youve just started one of the best games around...enjoy : )

word of advice...dont delete a character just because you have changed your mind about your choice of secondary profession. You get the opportunity to change secondary profession later in the game.
